manual Lymph drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage supports the flow of lymphatic fluid through the body using slow, gentle, rhythmic techniques. It facilitates faster healing and recovery, reduces swelling, and is deeply calming to the nervous system.

Nicole is currently a level 2 therapist trained through the widely recognized Dr. Vodder school of MLD. She can direct bill to most private insurance companies, as well as ICBC.

Conditions MLD May Support

Manual Lymph Drainage can be a valuable treatment option for conditions involving swelling, inflammation, fluid congestion, and recovery after injury or surgery. Nicole’s Level 2 training allows her to work with a wide range of conditions where the lymphatic system is functioning but may benefit from additional support.

MLD may be helpful for:

  • Acute and chronic injuries- including sprains, strains, bruising, hematomas, and other musculoskeletal injuries where swelling and fluid buildup are affecting recovery.

  • Post-surgical recovery- including orthopedic procedures such as knee and hip replacements, as well as preparation before surgery to support optimal recovery.

  • Swelling and inflammation- including bursitis, arthritis, joint irritation, and other conditions where reducing congestion may improve comfort and mobility.

  • Head, neck, and sinus concerns - including headaches, migraines, sinus congestion, allergies, whiplash, and idiopathic swollen lymph nodes.

  • Orthopedic and nerve-related conditions - including disc-related conditions, thoracic outlet syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome, and adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder).

  • Recovery and nervous system support - including concussion-related symptoms, long COVID recovery, insomnia, and general relaxation.

  • Skin and soft tissue concerns - including sunburns and traumatic injuries around the eyes or face.

MLD is most effective when started early after an injury or surgery, but it can also support recovery in later stages when swelling or tissue changes persist.

What to Expect During a Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) Treatment

  • Unlike traditional massage, MLD uses very light, slow, and rhythmic strokes designed to influence the superficial lymphatic system. It only involves the skin and the superficial layers of tissue, rather than the deep muscles.

  • Therapists use a specific stretch, release, and return cycle to "pump" fluid toward functioning lymph nodes and the heart.

  • Sessions may include opening and clearing key lymphatic pathways before focusing on areas of swelling, congestion, or post-treatment recovery needs.

  • MLD is a quiet, calming treatment experience that works with the nervous system rather than using deep pressure or intensive muscle techniques.
